Exercise Regiments in Summer: How to Pivot for Hotter Temps

In the summertime, it's tempting to stay inside and avoid the heat. But if you're a fitness enthusiast, you know that exercise is important all year round. With a few adjustments, you can still get your workout in even when the temperatures soar.

1. Drink plenty of fluids

Staying hydrated is essential when exercising in hot weather. Drink water or a sports drink before, during, and after your workout. Avoid sugary drinks like soda or juice, as they can dehydrate you.

2. Choose the right time to exercise

The hottest time of the day is typically in the early afternoon. If possible, schedule your workouts for the early morning or evening when the temperatures are cooler.

3. Find a shady spot

If you're exercising outdoors, find a shady spot to work out in. This will help you stay cool and avoid sunburn.

4. Wear loose-fitting clothing

Wear loose-fitting, lightweight clothing that will help your sweat evaporate. Avoid wearing dark colors, as they absorb heat.

5. Take breaks

Take breaks during your workout to cool down and drink some water. Listen to your body and stop if you feel faint or dizzy.

6. Cool down after your workout

After your workout, take a cool shower or bath to help your body cool down. You can also drink a cold drink or eat a popsicle.

7. Monitor your heart rate

Your heart rate may be higher when exercising in hot weather. Keep an eye on your heart rate and stop if it gets too high.

8. Listen to your body

The most important thing is to listen to your body. If you're feeling overheated or dizzy, stop exercising and cool down. Don't push yourself too hard, and take breaks when you need them.
